What is Reiki? – I often get this question, so today I am throwing some light on this wonderful healing practice and some of the benefits you can experience from Reiki healing.
The healing practise of Reiki can be traced back thousands of years with its roots found in Japan. Although it is believed to have been practised by ancient Tibetan civilisations, the current Reiki practise method was established by Dr. Mikao Usui in the late 1800s. I am a Reiki Master trained and attuned in the Usui lineage.
Pronounced ‘RAY-KEY’, it means Universal Life Force Energy. The underlying philosophy is that our energy has a direct impact on our health and state of being. Low vibrational energy results in stress and disquiet. Conversely, higher levels of positive energy lead to a sense of happiness and wellbeing. Reiki positively realigns and restores the flow of energy and addresses any divergences therein.
It is a gentle - yet powerful - form of healing performed by the practitioner using universal light or energy as the healing tool and involves the transference of the universal light to the client with the practitioner herself/himself acting as a conduit.
One of the highlights of this practice is that it can be hands-on or hands-off and can also be given from a distance since energy transcends any geographical limitations. It is a completely safe, non-invasive, and painless energetic treatment that complements all other healing modalities and can assist any existing medical treatment. That is why many hospitals are now recognising Reiki along with other forms of hands-on healing* (source: Australian Reiki Connection).
The way you will experience Reiki is unique to you, as it differs from person to person. You could feel it as a wave of heat or cold, tingling, rumbling in the stomach, a sense of pressure or something else. No matter the experience, the immediate affect is absolute relaxation. It is a very subtle practice that is transformational, nonetheless.
